Beyond the Red Roses

Forget the roses, the chocolates, the fuss,

This Valentine, let's celebrate the us.

Not the fluttering hearts and whispered desires,

But the embers of love, the slow-burning fires.

Let's raise a toast to the laughter unseen,

The knowing silences, a comfort serene.

To shared journeys, unspoken fears faced,

The hand held tight, a haven embraced.

No grand gestures, no fireworks display,

Just the quiet moments that brighten our day.

The shared cups of tea, the stories untold,

The warmth of our presence, more precious than gold.

This Valentine, let's celebrate the real,

The love that endures, the comfort it wields.

The bond that transcends the need for display,

A love that deepens, year after year, day by day.

THE GRIOT’S SONG

Under the sun's blazing gaze,
Where baobab giants stand in a daze,
Sits the griot, with eyes that gleam,
A weaver of tales, a living dream.

MAMA AMANI, THE VILLAGE TEACHER

Beneath a roof of sun-warmed clay,

Where whispers of knowledge softly sway,

Stands Mama Amani, a spirit so keen,

A village's treasure, a teacher unseen.

SHAKA ZULU: A LION'S ROAR

In the emerald hills where shadows lie deep,
A warrior arose, from slumber to leap.
Shaka Zulu, his name a deafening drum,
A destiny fixed, a life yet to come.

POEM: The Battle of the Ballot Box

In the land where the sun rises,

Where dreams are born and hopes surprise,

The people went to cast their votes with anticipation,

To exercise their right in a free nation.

But the ballot, a mere box to hold their voice,

Became a battlefield, a vile and brutal choice,

SHORT STORY: BROKEN

Walking away on a very sunny afternoon, I could only feel the heat emitting from deep inside me than the one from the scorching sun, my eyes were teary. Suddenly, I heard the honking of a car- it was thunderous, I was so scared that it felt like I was resuscitated as I was lost in thought. The car parked beside me, and he honked at me once more, I looked at the man sitting in the driver’s seat as he made a gesture towards me, beckoning me to come closer. ‘Hello beautiful lady, how are you doing? He said. A stare at him disgusted me as I was deeply hurt and infuriated. It was written all over my face, but this man still had to persuade me as I kept walking at the pedestrian until he drove off.

POEM: GONE-GORE SHOE

I crave the indulgence of my pockets,

As I embark on this journey of no definite return,

If I work my ass off in the morning,

And crown it in the evening with a keg of 'pammy',

MY THOUGHT: WHY OUR TOMORROW NEVER COMES- THE PROBLEM

Even though the future seems far away, it is actually beginning right now", says Mattie Stepanek which explains the says 'Youths are the leaders of tomorrow'.
It's a say that was born even before the name "Nigeria" and was realistic in the country or continent where it was coined. Up till tomorrow, it is still an order of the day in those countries that belief so much in their youth. Emmanuel Macron is a paradigm
